Hit and Run Traffic Collision. Bicyclist suffers severe injuries.

Los Angeles- August 5, 2012, at approximately 2055 hours, a severe injury Hit and Run Traffic Collision occurred at the intersection of Central Avenue and 32nd Street in Newton Area.

The victim was identified as Carlos Reyes Jr., 32 years old of Huntington Park. The investigation revealed that Reyes was riding his bicycle E/B on 32nd Street and made a right turn on Central Avenue. As he was in the process of completing the turn, he rode directly into the path of an oncoming truck traveling S/B in the #2 lane of Central Avenue. The driver in the truck fled the scene without identifying himself or rendering aid to Reyes, a violation of 20001(A) VC, Hit and Run.

According to witnesses, the hit and run vehicle was described as a 1992-1998 Chevy Silverado, red, flatbed truck with painted white panels. The driver was described as a male, Hispanic.

Reyes suffered severe head trauma and was transported to LAC+USC Medical Center by LAFD paramedics. He is listed in critical condition.
