The Portsmouth Police Department is encouraging residents, visitors, and business partners to join a Community Information Service designed to deliver important and timely information to residents in our area using the latest technology. Ongoing advancements in mobile communications provide an opportunity to spread current information direct to mobile devices, mobile email, and web browsers.

Nixle is a completely free, simple to use, community information service built exclusively to provide secure and reliable communications. Its authenticated service connects municipal agencies and community organizations to residents in real time, delivering information to geographically targeted consumers over their cell phones (via text messages), through e-mails and through Web access. Nixle is offered at no cost to government agencies and consumers.

New users can sign up for cell phone alerts simply by sending “PPDALERT” as a text message to 888777. To receive email alerts and alerts directed at specific neighborhoods or police patrol zones, new users should create a free account at www.nixle.com and include a home or work address or a nearby intersection.
