8-17-2012 TOPSFIELD EEE - WNV UPDATE
August 17: Mosquitoes have been trapped in Topsfield this past week and none were found positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).
However, a pool of mosquitoes collected this week in the northeast quadrant of Topsfield tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV).
In spite of this, Topsfield remains at “Low” risk for mosquito-borne disease.
In “Low Risk” areas, precautions include:
Repair all screens.
Wear mosquito repellent when outside during times of peak mosquito activity (dusk to dawn).
Wear long pants and long sleeves when outside during times of peak mosquito activity (dusk to dawn).
Use mosquito netting on baby carriages and playpens used outdoors.
Take precautions to dump any standing water where mosquitoes may breed including buckets, unused kiddie pools, old tires, etc.
NOTE: WEATHER PERMITTING, THE NORTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS MOSQUITO CONTROL WILL BE CONDUCTING TARGETED TRUCK MOUNTED SPRAYING LATE MONDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 20 IN THE NORTHEAST QUADRANT OF TOPSFIELD; NORTH OF ROUTE 97 AND EAST OF ROUTE 1.
