PRESS RELEASE: Recent Thefts from Vehicles around Warsaw
August 20, 2012
Over the past two weeks, Warsaw Police has investigated over two dozen thefts of articles from parked vehicles all over the city. The articles taken vary from purses and wallets, to laptop computers and electronics. On Friday, August 17, 2012, Warsaw Police arrested Gene M. Poe, 28 years of age, of 316 S. Washington Street, Warsaw, with criminal trespass after one of the victim’s identified Mr. Poe to police after observing him in his vehicle. Articles in Mr. Poe’s pockets implicate him in several other thefts and additional charges are expected. Additional charges for other suspects are also expected.
A majority of the thefts have occurred to unlocked vehicles at or near the owner’s residence. Some vehicles were broken into to gain access when the article was visible. Warsaw Police wish to remind residents to lock their vehicles, even while at home. The best practice is to not leave purses, wallets, or electronics of any kind in vehicles when unattended.
Anyone with information regarding these thefts are asked to contact the Warsaw Police Department Investigations Division at 574-372-9538.
