8-24-2012 EEE Update: Targeted Truck Mounted Spraying
in the town of Topsfield Late Tonight
This results of this week’s mosquito surveillance released today include a positive finding of EEE in a bird biting species of mosquito in the Pye Brook Park area. In response to this finding, Truck Mounted Spraying on select streets of Topsfield is scheduled for late this evening, August 24, weather-permitting. This week, there were no findings of WNV in mosquitoes trapped in town.
The area slated for spraying will be in the section of town west of Route 1 and north of Washington Street.
Property owners should consider the following:
Under optimal conditions the spray will not reach greater than 300 feet beyond the street.
No known effect on birds.
Night-time spraying avoids foraging bees.
No known effect on aquatic life.
No known effect on swimming pools.
Formula used supplies just enough mosquito adulticide to be effective on
mosquitoes.
All areas receiving the spray may be used the following day for outdoor activities.
The DPH risk level for Topsfield remains, "Low" for mosquito-borne illness.
Please continue to check with the Topsfield Board of Health Public Health Information Page for updated information and links to information on WNV, EEE and this week's risk map.
