The Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management remains on the scene of the Palos Park Highwood Drive Unified Command for the fuel pipeline break and spill alongside the Cal Sag canal.

Rt. 83 will remain closed throughout the next couple of days from Route 7 (Southwest Hwy) to Route 45 (LaGrange Ave). Traffic will be directed to the following alternate routes though the area: 111th, 123rd and 95th Streets.

Remediation and repair are continuing through the day.

Ground crews continue to remove shrubs and trees from property affected by the spill. Today the pipeline contractors will remove and preserve the affected pipeline for US DOT investigation.

Buckeye Pipeline added an additional hard boom that crossed the canal near the I & M Canal, the US EPA and the Illinois EPA continue to monitor the operation.
