Fruitport Township Police: Arrest warrants issued for prescription fraud involving employee of doctor's office.
Felony arrest warrants were issued today for a 39-year-old female from the Ottawa County area for prescription fraud. Fruitport Township Police Department initiated investigation into the matter after receiving a report from a doctor’s office in the Grand Rapids area where the female suspect had been employed.
Records suggest the female suspect had submitted over 40 fraudulent prescriptions for controlled medications over a period of approximately 2 years while she was employed by the doctor’s office.
The female suspect is alleged to have used her position within the doctor’s office to submit the fraudulent prescriptions in her own name. She would then pick up the prescriptions up at various pharmacies throughout Muskegon and Ottawa Counties.
Fruitport Township Police Department coordinated the investigation with agencies in Ottawa County. The female suspect may be facing charges there also.
At this time, no information has surfaced in the investigation to suggest the female suspect had been submitting fraudulent prescriptions for anyone besides herself. There has been no information to suggest she had sold or provided the fraudulently obtained prescription medications to others.
The female suspect turned herself in to police early today. Police are not releasing the name of the suspect, the name of the doctor’s office where the suspect had been employed, or the names of the involved pharmacies.
No further information is being released regarding this incident / investigation at this time.
