At approximately 1:10am this morning Port Neches Police officers were dispatched to the 400 blk of Gist in reference to a homeowner chasing a burglary suspect from his residence. The homeowner was awakened by a noise in the house and discovered a male suspect in his livingroom. The homeowner chased the suspect from the house and was unable to apprehend him. After returning to his residence he discovered that the suspect had broken into the attached garage and loaded numerous tools into the trunk of his vehicle and was intending to steal the car and tools. Officers responded to the area and recovered some evidence and eventually identified a possible suspect. They were unsuccessful in locating the suspect throughout the night. At about 9:00 this morning a driver for the City of Port Neches sanitation was approached by a male subject on Patricia asking to use a phone. The driver became suspicious of the suspect and the Police were contacted. The description of the suspect matched the suspect from the earlier burglary. Officers responded to the area and were initially unable to locate the suspect. Approximately 2 1/2 hours later a Public Works employee and the assistant fire marshall spotted suspicious activity at a house in the 600 blk of Drawhorn st. The assistant fire marshall stopped a vehicle leaving the scene and discovered the suspect. The suspect had broken into another residence to escape detection and had called a family member to pick him up. The suspect was arrested for burglary of a residence and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
