Century Deputies Break Up Cock Fighting Ring
During the morning of September 1st, Century Station deputies responded to the 2400 block of 130th Street in the Willowbrook district regarding a possible cock fight.
Several people were detained and questioned about their participation in the illegal event. At the rear of the property, nearly 100 chickens were housed separately in rugged outside coops to prevent the birds from fighting with each other. At the center of the yard was a boxed in ring measuring where the cock fights were staged. Also located were bottles of hormones and syringes. The birds are commonly injected with hormones to increase their size and to enhance their aggressiveness. Another common practice is to attach blades to the birds' feet to inflict significant, even sometimes fatal, injuries to the opposing bird.
Los Angeles County Animal Control responded to handle the investigation and care for the birds.
