Parks Bureau Introduces “Stars on the Baseball Diamond”
On Wednesday, September 12, 2012, personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau proudly introduced “Stars on the Baseball Diamond” at Athens Park, Los Angeles. The community based event was designed to promote positive interaction of Law Enforcement Personnel and youth of Athens Park Little League. Deputies and Security Officers facilitated three skill based activities; Home Run Derby, Baseball Throw and Base Running for the youth to partake in. During the activities, Parks Bureau personnel had the opportunity to interact and encourage the kids to try their best and support them in their efforts. The thirty children who participated received certificates for taking part in the event. Following the ceremony, they were excited to get the Deputies and Security Officers to autograph their certificates. In addition to the skills competitions, a friendly community softball game was played. The teams were comprised of Little League Coaches, community members and Park Bureau staff. The game was a great success primarily because the mixed teams allowed Law Enforcement and the community to play alongside one another. The youth cheered for everyone playing. At the conclusion of the event, the community was very grateful and supportive that Parks Bureau Deputies and Security Officers took the time to influence the youth in a positive cohesive manner.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
