WHY:
Valley Traffic Division is joining in the national campaign to promote public awareness
on the proper use of child safety seats. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) study, 3 out 4 children are not as secure in the car as they should
be because their seats are not being used correctly. Nationally, motor vehicle crashes are
the leading cause of death for children from 1 to 12 years of age, based on the latest
mortality data available from the Center for Disease Control National Center for Health
Statistics. Using the correct restraints greatly reduces an infant or toddlers chances for
fatal injury.
The Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Traffic Division will conduct a child safety seat enforcement/education detail. Trained technicians will be on site to inspect the installation of the child seats in the vehicle and check the seat for defects or recalls.
Valley Traffic Division provides free child safety seat inspections done by a certified technician. Citizens of Los Angeles can make an appointment by contacting 818-644-8143.
