On a recent traffic stop, Century Station deputies contacted two individuals for what would have been a minor vehicle code violation. Upon questioning one of the individuals, he provided a name and date of birth which was consistent with the information contained in the DMV and wanted persons database. The information the individual provided was clear of any wants or warrants. The individual, however, was unable to provide adequate identification.

The deputies fingerprinted the individual in the field using a “Bluecheck” mobile fingerprint identification device and determined that his true name was not the one he provided and that he had a “No Bail” warrant for failing to report to a judicial council.

The “Bluecheck” mobile fingerprint identification device has been in use for several years and makes a vast fingerprint database accessible to deputies in the field. Once fingerprints are obtained, it takes about a minute for the prints to be compared against a fingerprint database and for deputies to know whether the person they just stopped is being truthful about their name.

In this recent case, the individual was arrested for his warrant and additionally charged with falsely impersonating another. The “Bluecheck” has been a powerful tool in extracting the truth from those who have something to hide and has brought to justice many who would have otherwise skirted the law under an alias.
