On the afternoon of September 24, 2012, the victim was standing next to his car near the intersection of 76th Street and Central Avenue in the unincorporated Florence area. The victim was approached from behind by the suspect, who pointed a gun to his head and demanded his car. The victim feared that he was about to be shot and let the suspect take his car.
Century Station deputies responded to the carjacking call and received information from the victim that he and a friend were able to follow the suspect to a nearby restaurant parking lot, where they saw the suspect run southbound through an alley.
Assisting units fanned the area and located an individual matching the description of the suspect. The individual was positively identified by the victim as the one who pointed a gun to his head and stole his car moments earlier. The gun used in the crime had been discarded by the suspect, but was located prior to anyone being hurt by the unsecured weapon.
The suspect had previously been convicted of a felony and is now being charged with carjacking, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and making criminal threats.
