Topsfield EEE update for Oct. 5, 2012
Friday, October 5, 4:00 pm
-Good news.
-This week’s mosquito testing in Topsfield indicates no positive results for either EEE (for the fifth week in a row) or WNV (for the seventh week in a row) in mosquitoes trapped in any of the multiple locations throughout town. This information was confirmed with State Epidemiologist Matthew Osborne.
- However, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health mosquito borne illness threat level remains “HIGH” in Topsfield due to the recent diagnosis of EEE in a horse in Essex. The threat level will most likely will remain “HIGH” until the first hard frost.
-Topsfield Fairgrounds received pre-emptive border spraying on September 21 and October 3 with another scheduled for late in the evening of October 5. Additional sprayings will be determined by surveillance and weather.
-Residents should continue to be vigilant regarding protection from mosquitoes, especially during the hours between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
