A reminder to maintain a home inventory

We have responded to several burglaries and thefts over the past few weeks and we want to remind all of our citizens that one key element in recovering lost or stolen property and solving these cases is being able to provide us with serial numbers. This is important because it allows us to enter the stolen items into a nationwide database. When and if the serial number is checked by law enforcement, or if a criminal attempts to pawn the item(s), we will be notified which will allow for recovery and the gathering of leads.

We urge you to list key items within your home (including serial numbers, make, model, and special markings) so that you are prepared if you become a victim. Such a list is also helpful to your insurance company if a theft, fire, or natural disaster affects your home. This list should be kept in a safe place off site.

While we are on the topic of burglaries and thefts, please call 911 or 770-461-HELP (4357) if you see ANY suspicious persons or vehicles in your area. We would rather investigate a suspicious activity call than a burglary or theft.
