Free Gun Violence Training for the Public
The Gurnee Police Department has been providing gun violence training sessions to residents in conjunction with neighborhood watch meetings.
A 17 minute training video titled "Shots Fired! When Lightning Strikes" has been be presented, followed by questions and discussion. This video is produced by the Center for Personal Protection and Safety, located in Spokane, Washington. It is designed to assist in how to recognize and survive an “active shooter” situation in the workplace, in a school or anywhere it may occur.
In response to an invitation from the Simon Property Group, the police department will be presenting the training free of charge to all Gurnee Mills employees and members of the general public. A 30 minute presentation will be given in the mall show court near entry G (Shoppers World) on the following dates/times:
•Friday, October 19th, 2012 at 1:00 pm
•Saturday, October 27th, 2012 at 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm
While your chances of encountering an active shooter situation are low, the Gurnee Police Department believes that persons who are able to recognize an active shooter situation and have planned beforehand how to respond, have a much greater likelihood of surviving such an incident than someone who has not. This is a must-see for anyone concerned about this important topic.
