Castalia Commissioner arrested for Trafficking in Opium/Heroin
On October 18, 2012 the Nash County Sheriff’s Office culminated a two-month investigation into a prescription pill trafficker in Nash County. Clarence Alexander Bender, 54 of Castalia was arrested and charged with three (3) counts of Trafficking Opium or Heroin and Maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place. During the two month investigation, Investigators seized approximately one-hundred and nineteen (119) prescription pills from Bender. Bender is currently a commissioner in the town of Castalia, NC. Bender is also currently a candidate for North Carolina Senate in district 11. The Drug Enforcement Administration partnered with the Nash County Sheriff’s Office during this investigation. Bender is currently being held in the Nash County jail under a $300,000.00 secured bond. He is scheduled for his first court appearance in Nash County District Court on October 19, 2012.
