Last evening or early this morning, there were six (6) reported incidents of entering auto on the south/southeastern side of the City, to include: Majestic Circle, Hess Drive, Lakeshore Drive, Berkeley Road and Dunwick Drive.
It appears that someone went through the area "flipping door-handles" to find what opportunity would provide them for their efforts. Some of the items taken included: I-Pods, assorted change, jacket and a wallet.
As stated in many earlier advisories and articles, our battle against the local criminal element is a team effort. We have adjusted our patrol procedures and taken other measures, but our public needs to adhere to the often published crime prevention tips that have been provided on a routine basis for obvious purposes. The common factor in each and every reported incident during this event was that the vehicle WAS NOT locked. PLEASE LOCK YOUR VEHICLES AT ALL TIMES!
To lessen these "crimes of opportunity" we need our residents to remove their valuables and lock their vehicles when not in use. It is only by everyone doing their part, a true team effort, that these crimes can be prevented.
As noted in the past, any and all suspicious persons and activity need to be reported immediately by calling 911; calling City Hall only delays the police response when time is a crucial factor.
