As the actual path of Hurricane Sandy can change at any given time, residents in the Cumberland County area must not ignore this storm. It is a very large storm and has been described by weather people as another "Perfect Storm." Hurricane Sandy will combine with two other weather systems as it makes landfall anywhere between Connecticut and Virginia.
We should start to see the effects of this system on late night Sunday night and more prominently Monday and Tuesday.

What can you do to prepare for this weather system?
1. Clean up your yard. Remove all chairs, tables, potted plants, toys etc etc. With high winds, these items can blow around causing damage.
2. Account for all family members in advance and know where they are going to be if they are not staying with you.
3. Charge up cellular telephones, flashlights, obtain extra batteries for any electrical items that could prove essential during this event. Power outages are expected and some could last for several days if not longer. Use caution using candles.
4. Purchase non-perishable foods now don't wait for the last minute as stores tend to run out and long lines are anticipated.
5. Gas up your vehicles and generators.
6. Having cash on hand would not be a bad idea, but caution on the amount and dont make yourself a target.
7. Make alternate plans for your pets. Please do not leave them outside if you decide to leave the area.
8. Secure all your essential documents.
