MATAMORAS MAN CHARGED IN ROBBERY
After a joint investigation, Pike County District Attorney Raymond J. Tonkin and Chief Chad Stewart of the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department announced an arrest in a recent robbery of a local business.
Eastern Pike Regional Police Department arrested Ian Maute, age 21, of Matamoras and charged him with Robbery, a Felony, Theft by Unlawful Taking, Recklessly EndangeringAnother Person, Possessing Instruments of Crime and Simple Assault. On October 19, 2012, Maute entered Karen’s Flea Market on Pennsylvania Avenue displaying a knife
and removed between $350.00 - $450.00 from the register.1
Witnesses to the robbery reported observing a white Subaru Forester in the area around the time of the robbery. An investigator from the District Attorney’s Office located the described vehicle. According to the charges, the driver of the vehicle provided a statement to police saying that he drove Maute to First Street and Avenue L in Matamoras expecting Maute to be involved in a drug deal. Maute asked the driver to circle the block and return. When the driver returned and picked Maute up he appeared visibly upset.
The driver was shown a video of the robbery. The driver identified Maute as the person who committed the robbery.
Police obtained a Search Warrant for Maute’s residence at 400 Avenue L in Matamoras. As a result of the search, police found an umbrella used by the robber before entering the store as shown on video, a knife similar to the one used in the robbery, and black gloves. Maute was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Alan B. Cooper, and remanded to the Pike County Jail in lieu of $150,000.00 bail.
