Town of North Castle- Hurricane Sandy Emergency Preparedness update
The Town of North Castle, Office of Emergency Management, North Castle Police Department, North Castle Highway Department, North Castle Sewer and Water Department, have planned and are prepared to handle whatever Hurricane Sandy has in store for our Town. All residents should listen to the local radio and television weather updates to be aware of the storm progress . The Town of North Castle will also be sending out weather and emergency notifications as needed on the town web site as well as on the NIXLE emergency notification system. The Town encourages all residents to sign up to receive these NIXLE messages by going to www.nixle.com. Please tell your friends and neighbors to sign up to receive these emergency messages.
All Power outages should be reported to Con Edison by calling 1-800-75CONED. All fire or medical issues should be reported by dialing 911.
Stay away from all electric/telephone/cable wires that are on the ground.
Please limit driving on town roads during any storm. It may be unsafe for you and your family as well as hindering emergency response vehicles from getting to their destination quickly.
The various utility companies have planned, are prepared and are ready to respond to any downed wires, trees, etc.. These men and women are working on dangerous equipment under extremely dangerous conditions. With this in mind, we have to show some patience with these workers.
Until the high winds that are expected subside it is unsafe to work on any overhead wires. Very little restoration work will begin until the wind speeds have lowered.
Our Fire Department and EMS agencies have all increased their staffing during the predicted storm period.. These agencies are all staffed by resident volunteers giving their time and operating under extremely dangerous conditions to keep us safe and provide aid when needed.
For all fire and medical emergencies call 911 to facilitate appropriate dispatching.
If any reception center or sheltering is needed, the North Castle Citizens Corps Council which is a totally volunteer, resident staffed group is ready to set up and operate a center. If it is determined to open a facility, the information will be available on the town web site and sent out on the NIXLE emergency notification system. Additionally, the North Castle Police Department can be contacted at 914 273-9500 and any Officer who answers the phone will be able to provide the locations of the facility if one is operational.
Look out for your neighbors. Provide assistance or call the North Castle Police Department at 914-273-9500. If medial assistance is required call 911 to facilitate appropriate dispatching.
Any questions or assistance should be requested by calling the Town of North Castle Police Department at 914-273-9500 or the Office of Emergency Management at 914-273-3207. Any life threatening or medical emergencies should be reported by calling 911.
