Old Tappan Police Chief Thomas Shine with Hurricane Sandy Storm related information.
All Old Tappan Emergency Services are prepared to implement emergency protective measures regarding Hurricane Sandy. Governor Christie has declared a State of Emergency. Old Tappan will continue to take direction from NJ State and Bergen County OEM. Anticipated storm related issues are extensive flooding in low lying areas, high winds with storm related debris and potential power outages. Residents are asked to make any necessary preparations regarding these concerns. All Old Tappan schools are closed Monday 10/29/12. It is recommended that residents shelter in place by remaining in their homes for the duration of the storm. The Old Tappan DPW Super has requested residents refrain from placing leaves in borough streets for scheduled pick up, until the storm has passed. This will allow for better storm water management and attempt to reduce flooding. Bergen Co. has designated the NVRHS in Demarest as a regional shelter and this facility will only open if needed. You may review the Bergen Co. OEM website for additional information at www.co.bergen.nj.gov. Power outage customer contact numbers are PSEG 800-436-7734 and O&R 877-434-4100. In the event of an emergency, Old Tappan Emergency Services may be contacted using the 9-1-1 system or by calling 201-664-1221. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation and be safe.
