Hurricane Sandy Update
This is an update on Hurricane Sandy from the Lyndhurst Office of Emergency Management.
Hurricane Sandy is moving quickly toward southern New Jersey with landfall expected early this evening. High tide is expecting around approximately 8:40 p.m.
Due to the strain on emergency personnel we request that you make arrangements in advance to stay with family or friends in the event an evacuation order has to be issued. Although it is not mandatory at this time, we highly suggest that those residents on 1301 Wall Street West and all businesses operating on Chubb Avenue, Clay Avenue, Wall Street West, Polito Avenue, and Valley Brook Avenue east of Polito Avenue area evacuate.
If you have to evacuate, please take your pets with you. Please keep in mind that all of the public shelters require you’re pet to have a proper carrier or cage for use inside the facility. Shelters will not be able to accept any pets without the proper apparatus.
You can park your vehicle in the NJ Transit parking lot on New York Avenue by Shop-Rite or on any street at higher elevations. Resident parking rules and regulations have been suspended.
Effective Tuesday, Oct. 30th, all collection of garbage and recycling collection has been suspended town wide until further notice.
The Lyndhurst Emergency Operation Center (EOC) is now activated. The EOC can be reached by calling the Lyndhurst Police Department at (201) 939-2900 and selecting prompt #9. As always, for emergencies DIAL 911.
