Town of North Castle - Storm Update
The Town of North Castle is requesting that residents limit all non-essential travel. This request will remain in effect until 4:00 PM today October 30. The storm has damaged much of the utility lines and poles throughout the Town. It will be extremely dangerous for any movement on our roadways due to the extent of damage to our overhead wires and large number of trees blocking the roadways. Our local Emergency Services have many serious conditions they are responding to and do not need to be responding to incidents attributed to bad judgement that could simply be prevented by remaining in your residence. The utility companies will concentrate their early efforts on making these downed wires safe which is a huge undertaking. Once these lines are considered to be safe, the restoration process will begin.
Residents should be aware that utility lines that appear to be “dead” may in fact still be energized. Just approaching these downed wires could be deadly. Any hazardous condition should be reported the Police on 273-9500. Any life threatening conditions or Fire should be reported on 911. The Police Department is requesting that residents report simple power outages by calling 1-800-75CONED.
Please do not call the Police Department looking for non-essential information or road conditions. A large percentage of our roadways are impassable and the North Castle Highway Dept has been working all night to facilitate opening as many roads as possible. Again, when their our power lines involved those areas will be opened as soon as and only when the lines are confirmed to be de-energized by our Utility company.
The Town will open a resident reception center at the Hergenhan Recreation center at 40 Maple Ave Armonk,NY . The Center will be opening at 8:00 am Tuesday 10/30. This center should be used by those residents who can not remain in their own homes for whatever reason. There will be beverages ,snacks ,showers , and electronic devices can be charged at this facility. This facility is being staffed by our totally volunteer Citizens Corps Council.
The current conditions can not and will not be repaired as quickly as any of us would like, however be assured that the North Castle Police Department ,Office of Emergency Management, Highway Department, Water and Sewer Dept. And all of our Volunteer Fire, EMS ,and Sheltering personnel, and our Utility Companies have been and will continue to work as quickly and safely as possible . We need to be patient and thankful to all of the workers that are out there working under these extremely stressful and dangerous conditions.
