Homicide Suspect Arrested - Abducted Child Located Safely

Child Recovered Safely and Suspect Arrested

On Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 11:30 p.m. Tyler Police Department was notified by West Monroe Louisiana Police Department that they had recovered Lucas Calvert safely and arrested his father James Calvert.

West Monroe Police Department was conducting a traffic stop on a gray, Buick LeSabre with Texas plates. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer and a short pursuit ensued. Officers pursued the vehicle down a dead-end road where it subsequently crashed. Officers took the driver into custody after they forced entry into the vehicle. The driver was identified as James Calvert who was wanted for Capital Murder in Tyler, Texas. Officers observed a small boy in the rear seat identified as Lucas Calvert who had been abducted from his home in Tyler.

Officers recovered two weapons from Calvert’s vehicle at the time of the arrest. Officers quickly determined that this was the vehicle that law enforcement agencies were searching for nation- wide after receiving a state wide notification earlier in the day.

The Tyler Police Department would like to thank West Monroe Police Department for the safe return of Lucas Calvert and capture of James Calvert. We would also like to thank all the numerous Federal, State, County and local law enforcement agencies, the media and citizens for their assistance in locating the abducted child and apprehension of Calvert.

Warrant Issued – Hot Line Established

Tyler Police Department has secured an arrest warrant for Capital Murder on James W. Calvert. The warrant was issued by Judge Jack Skeen. Bond has been set at $2,000,000.00.

A 24 hour hot line has been set up at the Tyler Police Department Command Post. The number to call with information on James Calvert is 903-595-7220. If the line is busy please call the main communications line at 903-531-1000.

The suspect’s vehicle has been confirmed as a 2000 Buick LeSabre and not a 2004 year model.

Investigators along with County, State and Federal Agencies continue to follow leads and have failed to locate him. The Tyler Police Department appreciates all assistance that has been given toward the attempts to locate Lucas Calvert.

Victim Identified
The victim in the shooting today has been identified as Jelena Radobanovic Sriraman DOB: 03-25-1982.

Woman Shot by Ex-Husband and Child Abducted

On October 31, 2012 at around 12:10 p.m. the Tyler Police Department received a call of a shooting in the 3300 block of Bain Place. Upon arrival Officers learned that James W. Calvert shot his ex-wife to death and abducted their 4 year old child. Officers and Investigators are searching for Lucas Calvert W/M DOB; 02-26-2008. He is about 3 foot tall and weighs about 30-40 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue long sleeved sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. He was abducted by his father James W. Calvert W/M DOB: 12-03-1970 of Tyler, Texas. He is 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighs 185 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be in a 2004 Buick 4 door gray or silver in color, bearing Texas license plate DP4-G858. An Amber Alert has been issued for the child.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

James W. Calvert is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about James W. Calvert is urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers, at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833). Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the suspect in this case, or any, felony case.
