Pennington Borough Emergency Information
• OEM (Office of Emergency Management): Has been monitoring the Borough’s position in relation to emergency services and infrastructure issues both within and around the Borough. They will also be involved in assessing damage and FEMA reimbursement for Borough activities and will direct homeowners to gain FEMA assistance where needed.
• POWER ISSUE: Power is beginning to return to many residents and businesses within Pennington Borough.
• HALLOWEEN: IF power is fully restored by Monday 11/5/12, Halloween will be recognized as directed by the Governor’s order. Wires may still be down and will be DANGEROUS. Safety first. If a street or residence has obvious damage or wires down, please continue on. Being cognizant of Safety even MORE than usual.
• THE GENERAL ELECTON: Power has just been restored to Borough Hall (11/2/12, @10AM.) The general election will be held at the USUAL polling places provided that power remains on.
• WATER SYSTEM: The water system has remained up and running on generator power with no reported problems
• SEWAGE SYSTEM: Has remained functional through out this emergency.
• ROAD CLOSINGS: A constantly changing issue but currently, Baldwin Street between East Welling and Maple Street, Sked Street between Voorhees Ave. and Ingleside Ave. Delaware Ave. has been re-opened.
NOTE: Public Works cannot move/clear trees when power lines are involved. The utility company must do this work.
• Comfort Station: During times of Power Outage, the Firehouse is open from 8AM to 4PM. Residents are invited to stop in to get warm, recharge batteries, and obtain water if necessary. (No shower facilities are available.)
• CONSIDER SIGNING UP FOR NIXLE! During the emergency, Pennington has just started to use NIXLE. NIXLE is a communication system whereby the Borough can send public safety messages via TEXT messages and E-MAIL. Anyone with these capabilities can SIGN UP at: www.NIXLE.com. Please note that you must select the messages and agencies from which you want to receive messages and your selections can be changed at anytime. We suggest you also accept messages from Hopewell Township which is also sending updates most of which are highly pertinent to Pennington Borough residents. The sign up is FREE! PLEASE consider taking advantage of this system.
• TREE DEBRIS: If you employ someone to cut trees and branches on your property, it is their responsibility to REMOVE ALL debris. Homeowners MUST separate leaves and twigs. Leaves with even small twigs cannot be picked up and must be bagged to be removed.
