Clarification on the Hurricane Sandy Federal Declaration
This message is an attempt to provide clarity and otherwise eliminate any confusion regarding the Federal Declaration to Hurricane Sandy.
The Federal declaration of emergency was approved on October 31, but it is limited. The declaration only authorized the deployment of federal assets to assist state and local response.
Individual assistance, which is financial or direct assistance to individuals and families whose property has been damaged or destroyed as a result of a federally-declared disaster, and whose losses are not covered by insurance, has yet to be determined for Virginia.
Once a determination is made by FEMA on the availability of this type of assistance, the City will communicate it immediately.
More information on disaster assistance can be found on FEMA’s Disaster Survivor Assistance website at http://www.fema.gov/disaster-survivor-assistance.
