Please remember that individuals soliciting for any business within Marengo (with few exceptions) must report to the police department or city hall to register their agents and obtain a solicitor’s permit. These permits are to be with the solicitors and provided for inspection upon request.
Recently, we have had several complaints of individuals trying to get people to switch utility companies. We don’t have information showing that these solicitors are trying to scam people per se, but they are circumventing the permitting system. You should contact the non-emergency line (815-568-7231) if you know solicitors are in your neighborhood without permits.
