Felony Weapons Offense Suspect Arrested

Fruitport Township Police Department, with the assistance of the Muskegon County Emergency Response Team, arrested a 48-year-old male subject on Thursday night (11/08/2012) for an outstanding arrest warrant for a felony weapons offense.

The arrest warrant stemmed from an incident that took place in 300 block of Lake Street in the Village of Fruitport in March, 2012. In that incident, the male subject had reportedly fired the gun inside his residence in the presence of his 11-year-old child. This reportedly took place while the male subject was holding the gun and talking to his child about the child’s mother and mother’s new husband. The child also reported seeing him point the gun toward himself several times.

Police executed a search warrant at the residence and seized multiple firearms. Police also observed damage consistent with a firearm being discharged inside the residence. An arrest warrant was obtained.

Police had been trying to locate the male subject for the past several months without success. Police had information suggesting the subject had knowledge of the outstanding warrant and had been staying out of the area. The subject had not turned himself in despite allegedly knowing about the outstanding warrant.

On 11/08/2012, Fruitport officers observed the subject at the Lake Street residence. The subject entered the residence and refused to come to the door. Police received a tip there may be weapons inside the residence. A search warrant was obtained, and the Muskegon County Emergency Response Team responded to the scene to assist.

Police surrounded the residence and made their presence and intentions well known. Multiple announcements were made using a megaphone in an effort to get the subject to exit the residence, however the subject did not comply.

ERT forced a door open, and the subject then presented himself to officers. He was taken into custody without further incident. No one was injured during the arrest. No additional firearms were located inside the residence.

The subject was lodged at the Muskegon County Jail. Reports will be forwarded to the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office late Friday morning to be reviewed for appropriate charges.

No further information, including the names of the involved parties, is being released at this time.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
