Parks Bureau Deputies Find Endangered Runaway From Idaho

Parks Bureau Deputies Find Endangered Runaway From Idaho

On November 08, 2012, a Parks Bureau Deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received information that an endangered runaway male white juvenile from Idaho was working at a carnival operating out of Whittier Narrows Regional Park. Based on the transitory nature of carnival workers, the deputy quickly formulated a plan to try and locate the juvenile.

With the assistance of other deputies and security officers from Parks Bureau, they set up a containment of the area. They then systematically searched the area and eventually located the juvenile hiding underneath one of the amusement rides. He was transported to and detained at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall pending the arrival of his mother, who was responding from Idaho. During the scope of the investigation, it was learned the minor had not been taking his prescribed medication for a bipolar and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Through the combined efforts of Parks Bureau personnel, a mother will sleep easier tonight knowing her child is safe.

Whittier Narrows Regional Park is located at 1600 Rosemead Blvd., South El Monte, CA.

The Parks Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department polices 177 county parks, golf courses and special event venues throughout Los Angeles County.
