Type of Collision: Fatal Hit and Run (Vehicle vs. Pedestrian)

Location of Incident: Mountain Road near Jumpers Hole Road in Glen Burnie, Maryland

Date & Time: November 20, 2012 @ 7:13 p.m.

Motor Vehicle: Dark-colored maroon van or SUV (vehicle could possibly be missing one of its headlights)

Driver: Unknown

Pedestrian: John Junior Stewart, 52, of 7911 New Freetown Road, Glen Burnie Md

Injuries/Condition: Fatal (Mr. Stewart died at Shock Trauma)

On November 20, 2012, at approximately 7:13 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on eastbound Mountain Road near Jumpers Hole Road in Glen Burnie.

Officers arrived on scene and located the pedestrian injured and lying in the roadway. Paramedics arrived and rendered aid to the pedestrian. Witnesses advised that a dark-colored van or SUV struck the pedestrian. After striking the pedestrian, the suspect vehicle slowed then came to a stop just beyond the scene of the crash. The driver of the suspect vehicle failed to render aid to the pedestrian and then fled the scene traveling east on Mountain Road. The victim was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where he later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

Crash investigators from the Traffic Safety Section responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Evidence collected at the scene indicates that the suspect vehicle sustained damage to the front headlight assembly and could have considerable damage to the hood, grille or bumper. At the time of the crash, the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk and failed to yield to oncoming vehicular traffic before entering the roadway. The cause of the crash appears to be pedestrian error. Speed does not appear to be a factor in this crash. This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573.
