o (11-21-12) 500 block of Allen - Two tires were slashed on a vehicle parked in the area.

o (11-24-12) North – Second report of damaged Christmas lights at same location within a week.

o (11-25-12) Obrian/S Platt Areas - Officers responded to check the area on two separate occasions after callers reported hearing loud noises that sounded like gun shots in the area. Nothing was initially found. Later, while Ofc McLaughlin was doing a property check at Symons Elementary School, he found one exploded 2 liter plastic bottle and the remnants of two partially damaged 2 liter plastic bottles in the school driveway directly across from Scottsdale Estates. He also found a bottle of cleaning solution, probably used during the incidents, discarded behind the Scottsdale Estates sign. There was no damage in the area and there was nothing found directly around the school building. Officers re-checked the surrounding area, Symons School, and the other schools again during daylight hours and found no additional bottles. School Administration was notified.

These incidents are trending around weekend periods and late night to early morning hours.

In response to these incidents, Milan Police Officers have increased patrols in neighborhoods, parking lots, and other areas where these types of crimes tend to occur. Officers have also
been looking for and making contact with suspicious persons and vehicles during the late night/early morning hours. These patrols and contacts have resulted in arrests and citations for non-related events, but appear to have been noticed, as citizens have forwarded positive feedback on the increased visibility of these patrols.

The police department is asking citizens to be aware of these incidents, and contact the Dispatch Center at 734-439-1551 if they see or hear anything suspicious. By acting as our eyes and ears, the probability of catching those responsible greatly increases. Citizens should certainly not take any actions on their own, but focus on being good witnesses and report observations to the police department.

Parents are encouraged to be aware of and monitor their kids’ activities and whereabouts, as well. If assistance is needed, please contact our School Resource Officer.

Anyone with any information on any of these incidents can call the Milan Police Department and remain completely anonymous. The anonymous tip line may also be used to provide information. That telephone number is: 734-439-4311

November 26, 2012 – Christmas Parade Closures and No Parking, December 6, 2012

This event will result in road closures Downtown, as well as no parking tow-away zones posted in the area to accommodate the festivities. Tolan Street will be closed before the event. There will be pre-parade entertainment occurring at that location. Parade registration is at Paddock School; float and participant line up will occur in the areas of Michigan west of the school, Ash, West Second, and Railroad, therefore motorists should expect delays and drive carefully in those areas. The parade will start on West Main and end in the area of the Fire Barn. Main Street in the Downtown area will be completely closed during this event, as will Tolan.
