OPERATION ROYAL OUTREACH
ODENTON
The Royal Inn located at1630 Annapolis Road in Odenton, Maryland has a large number of families who use the hotel as their residence. The families living in the motel are displaced families in need, creating an extreme hardship to the children. The Royal Inn has been plagued with violence, crime and substance abuse, all of which the children living there have been exposed to at various times.
Members of the local business community recently reached out to the Anne Arundel County Police Department for help in facilitating assistance to the families, specifically the children living in the Royal Inn. Through cooperation with the business community, civic groups and faith based groups, the Police Department’s goal is to continue to develop a positive relationship with the residents of the Royal Inn. The Police Department will be working closely with the community throughout the holiday season to assist the families living in the motel by routinely providing them meals and assuring that each child has their individual needs met. This is another step in working with the community to reduce crime and improve the quality of life on the Annapolis Road (Boomtown) Corridor.
On Thursday, November 29, 2012, the Police Department and the community will provide dinner to the residents as they take part in a tree lighting with the children. At 5:00 p.m., a tree will be placed in an open area of the hotel, where the families living in the hotel can decorate and enjoy it. The community will provide dinner to the families as the children write letters to Santa and make picture frames to display their pictures with Santa. At approximately 6:30 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at the motel with the help of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Department on one of their fire trucks. The children will then have their pictures taken with Santa. The Police Department thanks the community for their involvement in this positive venture.
