The Spindale Police Department arrest Jakim Joel Smith for the attempted armed robbery of Deb's Mini Mart on Main Street. Incident occured on 12-3-2012 at 2200hrs when the suspect approched the clerk at Deb's Mini Mart with a shotgun. The suspect demanded money, and the clerk and suspect then struggled for control of the gun. Suspect then ran from the scene as a Spindale Police car pulled into the parking lot during the struggle. Jakim Smith was later arrested at his home at 312 Pennsylvania Avenue in Spindale. In addition to the robbery charge, Jakim Smith was also charged with second degree kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held in the Rutherford County Detention Facility under a $300,000.00 secured bond.
