Deputy Involved Shooting While Encountering a Vicious Dog, 8700 blk West Bl, Pico Rivera - LASD

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the 8700 block of West Boulevard, Pico Rivera, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting.
The incident occurred when a vicious Pit Bull dog charged at deputies in the front yard when they arrived to handle an urgent call for service of a possible "Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Gun Shot Victim."
The Pit Bull dog died at the scene as a result of the shooting, and a deputy received a minor grazing wound to his leg that did not require hospitalization.
No other deputies were injured.
A thorough search of the area did not locate an assault victim from the original call.
Whenever a Deputy Involved Hit Shooting occurs, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene and have full access to the facts known to the Sheriff's Department throughout every phase of these investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
