Important school information.
In light of the tragedy that occurred today in Connecticut, our hearts go out to the many victims of this horrific event.
Foothill Area Officers are visiting all of our schools today to reassure administrators, teachers and students and will provide extra patrol in the coming weeks and upon return to school from the holidays.
Please note that in general, schools continue to be one of the more safe places that our children can be during an emergency situation. Teachers, students, and administrators practice emergency plans through regular drills including earthquake, fire and on-campus or near-campus shootings. Also, schools follow strict rules of accessing the grounds during school hours. Those rules are there to protect against off-campus intruders.
All LAPD Officers have received training in how to deal with an active shooter situation at a school or other large venue such as a shopping center.
We ask the public to be alert to warning signs of people's behavior. After-action studies often reveal that signs of depression, anger, bragging, plans of violence or threats were ignored. If you see something, say something.
Talk to your children tonight. Help them put incidents like today into perspective so that they are not overwhelmed. Kids tend to adopt the response of their parents. Also, give them an extra hug.
