Potential driving hazard - Elk herd near Hwy 101 just east of Whitefeather Way east of Sequim.
Message below from Wildlife Program Coordinator, Tim Cullinan:
For the past 26 hours the Sequim elk herd (about 50 animals) has been in the narrow strip of woods between Highway 101 and the Olympic Discovery Trail just east of Whitefeather Way east of Sequim. The attached photo is from our satellite tracking data. It shows locations where the elk have been detected since 11:00 yesterday morning (Fix #1). The line running from the upper left corner toward to lower right of the picture is U.S. 101. Our experience is that when the elk get into this strip of woods they soon try to cross the highway. As of 7:00 this morning the elk were still in that area.
