The proud men and women of the Albany Police Department ask the public to STOP the senseless act of firing weapons into the air and CELEBRATE SAFELY.
Every year, a significant number of people throughout the City engage in the extremely dangerous practice of discharging firearms into the air to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. Citizens need to know that this is a deadly tradition and will not be tolerated within the city limits.
The City of Albany prohibits the discharging of firearms under code section 38-144.
Members of the community are encouraged to call 9-1-1 if shots are heard in their neighborhoods.
