On January 9, 2013 a Santa Rosa Junior College District Police Department Cadet was patrolling the main SRJC campus at Plover Hall when he observed Matthew B. Whitaker, a 21 year old Santa Rosa resident, watching pornography on one of the public computers. The police cadet immediately called a SRJC PD police officer who responded to the scene.
The police officer made contact with Whitaker and discovered that several of the displayed pornographic websites involved children. Whitaker was arrested for possession of obscene matter depicting a minor and burglary. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail and his bail was set at $10,000.
SRJC PD requested the assistance of the Santa Rosa Police Department whose detectives are participating in the ongoing investigation.
