COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARREST GLEN BURNIE
On January 05, 2013, at 1:38 a.m., officers from the Northern District responded to J.J.'s Tavern located in the 1000 block of 1st Street in Glen Burnie for multiple reports of shots fired inside of the bar. While en route to the location, dispatch advised that it was a robbery.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a lone suspect entered the bar, announced a robbery and demanded from the register. During the incident, the suspect fired shots into the glass of a coin-operated gaming machine and ultimately took and undisclosed amount of money from the machine along with a purse from one of the patrons. The suspect then fled the business. No patrons were injured.
At approximately 3:13 a.m., Northern District officers conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck at the intersection of Point Pleasant Road and Sunnybrook Drive. The vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle from the earlier robbery as provided by witnesses. Further investigation led detectives to arrest one suspect, Mark Donovan Hopkins, Sr., 40, of 1055 7th Street in Glen Burnie, Maryland, in connection with the robbery. Additionally, it was learned that all three individuals in the vehicle responded to the Honey Bee Diner located in the 7300 block of Ritchie Highway and passed a counterfeit bill. All three suspects were charged accordingly in relation to that incident.
