THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PADUCAH HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS EVENING.
* TIMING: FREEZING RAIN...OCCASIONALLY MIXED WITH SLEET...WILL IMPACT AREAS TO THE NORTH AND WEST OF A LINE FROM ELLSINORE MISSOURI TO MARION AND FAIRFIELD ILLINOIS BY NOON. THE ICING WILL SPREAD SOUTH AND EAST ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS THROUGH MID-AFTERNOON. THE PRECIPITATION SHOULD COME TO AN END FROM WEST TO EAST LATER THIS AFTERNOON.
* MAIN IMPACT: ICING WILL OCCUR MAINLY ON ELEVATED OBJECTS. DUE TO THE WARM...MOIST GROUND...ROADWAYS WILL MOSTLY BE WET...BUT MOTORISTS SHOULD SLOW DOWN AND BE PREPARED FOR A FEW SLICK SPOTS ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES.
* OTHER IMPACTS: EVEN THOUGH THE PRECIPITATION WILL BE OVER BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON...ROAD CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY TO DETERIORATE TONIGHT...AS THE SUN SETS AND TEMPERATURES DROP THROUGH THE 20S.
