The search continues for additional suspects.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the intersection of 98th Street and Harvard Boulevard, South Los Angeles (unincorporated community), to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting that occured on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at about 4:59AM.
One male suspect was hit by gunfire. His condition is unknown.
There are an unknown number of suspects outstanding and the search is ongoing.
No sheriff's deputies were hit by gunfire.

Whenever a Deputy Involved Shooting occurs and it results in the wounding of a suspect, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney in addition to investigations by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene and have full access to the facts known to the Sheriff's Department throughout every phase of these investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
