Advisory

Follow-up to an accident that occurred on Monday, July 9, 2012.

As a follow-up to an accident that occurred on Monday, July 9, 2012, charges have recently been issued by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Hayes Road and Jefferson Road, and it was a nearly head-on collision. Betty Mead, a Columbia Township resident, was westbound on Jefferson, and Cristin Woodsum, a 33 year-old resident of Northville was eastbound on Jefferson. Each driver was the lone occupant in their vehicle.

Betty Mead was treated at the scene by Columbia Township Fire Department rescue personnel, as well as Jackson Community Ambulance, and she was then flown by Survival Flight to the University of Michigan Hospital.

The accident investigation determined that neither the suspect’s vehicle nor the victim’s vehicle were speeding, but Woodsum had gone around another (eastbound) vehicle to turn left, and drove directly into the path of the oncoming vehicle driven by Betty Mead. Betty Mead underwent a series of medical procedures over the next several months, and has recovered. Woodsum was uninjured.

On approximately January 15, 2012, a warrant was signed charging Cristin Woodsum with “Moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function”, a 93 day misdemeanor, and she has been notified to turn herself in on the charge.

Accident investigators from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the on-scene investigation.
