Tornado Drill 9 a.m. 02/06/13
The College of Coastal Georgia Police Department will be testing the CCGA Tornado Warning Siren at 9:00 a.m. today. This is only a drill. The local test is being held in conjunction with the statewide tornado drill. The CCGA Tornado Alert Siren will be activated to help our CCGA community become familiar with the actual sound of the tornado siren, which is different than the normal monthly test message. Persons on the CCGA campus and in adjacent neighborhoods will hear the tornado siren. The siren and message may possibly be heard up to 1 mile away, depending on atmospheric conditions.
Tornado Safety Tips
If inside a building, it is suggested that persons go directly to an enclosed, windowless area in the center of the building -- away from glass and on the lowest floor possible. Then, crouch down and cover your head. Interior stairwells are usually good places to take shelter, and if not crowded, will allow you to get to a lower level quickly. Stay off the elevators; you could be trapped in them if the power is lost. If you are caught in the open outdoors and if possible, seek shelter in a sturdy building. If not, lie flat and face-down on low ground, protecting the back of your head with your arms. Get as far away from trees and cars as you can; they may be blown onto you in a tornado.
