Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign
Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign
Date: 2/7/2013
Montpelier, ID – A safety restraint enforcement campaign will begin on February 8, 2013 and end on February 17, 2013. The Montpelier Police Department is teaming with the Idaho Transportation Department and other law enforcement agencies to support the nationwide highway safety goal of reducing motor vehicle related deaths and serious injuries by increasing the use of seat belts and child safety seats.
Based on recent seat belt survey observations, 79% of Idahoans are using seat belts. Seat belt usage varied by region around the state from a high of 93% in District 3 (Southwestern Idaho) to a low of 61% in District 5 (Southeastern Idaho).
Seat belts are estimated to be 50% effective in preventing serious and fatal injuries. In 2012 there were 185 people killed on Idaho’s roads. “Many lives can be saved, if everyone wears their seatbelts” said Lt. Wells of the Montpelier Police department.
Do you know someone who doesn’t wear their seatbelt? You could save their life. Please, remind everyone in your car to buckle up.
