____________________________________________
The San Jose Bike Party (http://www.sjbikeparty.org/) has announced a large-scale bike riding event which will travel through the streets of Mountain View TONIGHT from 8pm to about 1am. The bike route has been reported to begin in the City of Sunnyvale and will then travel through both Mountain View and Los Altos before returning to Sunnyvale where it will conclude.

This event is neither endorsed nor discouraged by the Mountain View Police Department (MVPD). In an effort to maintain safety for bicyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles, MVPD will have additional traffic officers and assistance from Sunnyvale DPS, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, Santa Clara PD, Milpitas PD, and the Los Altos PD to help monitor the flow of the bike ride and help keep everyone safe. In addition to monitoring the flow of the ride, strict enforcement of bicycle related vehicle code violations will be in effect, particularly for safety violations. We will take a zero tolerance approach to the consumption of alcohol by participants.

We would like to remind all bicyclists participating in the San Jose Bike Ride of the following safety tips:

1. Share the road with vehicles. Please ride as far right as possible.
2. Stop at all traffic control devices (e.g. stop signs & stop lights).
3. Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
4. Don't drink and ride. DUI on a bicycle carries many of the same penalties as DUI in a vehicle.
5. Be courteous. Not just to the other bicyclists in the ride, but the other people on the roadway and the people who live in the neighborhoods you are riding through.

MVPD will be tweeting live updates about the progress of the event and any traffic issues via our Twitter account @MountainViewPD
