***When: Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 4:00pm***
East Los Angeles Sheriff Station is proud to announce the dedication ceremony for the new Sheriff's Youth Activities League Center (YAL) in East Los Angeles. The completion of the YAL Center was a collaborative effort between East Los Angeles Sheriff Station, the City Terrace Coordinating Council and the Federacion de Clubes Zacatecanos and local businesses. This youth center will serve as an after school youth program for children between 7 and 17 years of age. It will provide free homework assistance, classes in leadership, Zumba, yoga, computers, Folkorico dance lessons, and an opportunity to interact in a safe and secure environment.
The concept and goal of the YAL Center is to be proactive in dealing with the youth of the community. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department provides leadership and mentoring for the youth through a variety of programs where the children learn to make life-enhancing decisions free of drugs and gangs. The program recognizes the importance of early intervention and the need to provide alternative activities to prevent negative behavior.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the game and face painting booths for kids, a Mexican Charros rope demonstration, Youth Mariachi, and a Zacatecanos Ballet Folkorico performance.
The YAL center will be based out of the East Los Angeles Sheriff's Sub Station 4100 City Terrace Drive , Los Angeles, California 90063.
