2012 Officer of the Year
Success North Dallas sponsored the 2012 Dallas Police Department Officer of the Year ceremony this morning. The ceremony was held at Prestonwood Country Club, located at 15909 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas. This year’s recipient is Sergeant Rector McCollum, #4333, a 32 year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, who is currently assigned to the Youth Division. Sgt. McCollum has held previous assignments to include Central Patrol, Tactical Division, Fugitive Unit and Northeast Investigative Unit.Sergeant McCollum has spent his career as a volunteer for several organizations. He volunteered his time as Mason of the Scottish Rite organization best known for their charitable hospitals for children. He also served as a volunteer on the Hughston Elementary “Community Site Based” Committee Program geared at enhancing the school’s academics. He was the driving force behind the Department having a bagpiper. He learned to play the instrument and performed solo at many events. The Dallas Police and Fire Pipes and Drums organization exists thanks to Sergeant McCollum’s vision. This is just a few of many accomplishments by Sergeant McCollum that earned him the honor of being selected as the Officer of the Year.Special Guest included Mayor Mike Rawlings, First Assistant Chief Charles Cato, members of Success North Dallas and members of the Dallas Police Awards Committee.
