Child Safety Seat Program Saves Lives
Honey Creek and Riley Fire Departments are promoting a child passenger safety public service geared to protect Hoosier children's lives on the nation's highways.
Honey Creek and Riley Fire Departments have been operating permanent child safety seat inspection stations since 2007. These permanent child safety seat inspection stations are staffed by nationally certified child passenger safety seat technicians who will inspect car seats and instruct families how to properly secure them in their vehicles. Appointments can be made with the technicians during normal business hours.
Statistics show that at least four out of five car seats are used incorrectly. Improper use of a child safety seat can lead to severe injury and or death. Parents and caregivers can call Honey Creek Fire Department at (812) 299-4902 or Riley Fire Department at (812) 894-3610 to schedule an appointment to have their car seat installation checked. Also, adults will be provided educational material and instruction on proper child passenger safety and car seat installation.
The Governor's Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving is funding this program with technical support provided by the Automotive Safety Program at Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University School of Medicine.
