At approximately 8:00 Wednesday morning, February 27, 2013, two men were in a car traveling south in the 11200 block of South Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, when a sports utility vehicle blocked their direction of travel. When the car tried to maneuver around the SUV that vehicle continued to block their path. At that time a van pulled up and someone inside began shooting at the men in the car. The van and the SUV drove away from the scene.
Both men in the car were hit by the gunfire, but the wounded driver was able to drive west on Imperial Highway and pull into the parking lot of a Los Angeles County Building and Safety Office at 1320 West Imperial Highway, Los Angeles. Both victims were transported to a local hospital where the 21-year-old right front passenger victim was pronounced dead. The driver victim, also 21-years-old, was admitted and is listed in stable condition. Both victims reside in Los Angeles.
It appears the victim intended to drive to South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station, 1310 West Imperial Highway, Los Angeles, but may have confused the sheriff’s station with the building and safety office as they are next door to each other and of similar construction.
It has not been determined if the shooting was gang-related.

Sheriff's Homicide Detectives are en route to the 11200 block of Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of one man and the wounding of a second man.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital where one was pronounced dead. The condition of the wounded man is unknown at this time.
